Oleksandr Slobodskyi
I am from Ukraine. Grew up in Odesa, studied design in Lviv, and now I'm based in Kyiv.
For over a decade, I've deeply engaged in helping individuals in the creative economy discover ways to earn a living and develop their monetization strategies.
Distinguished gentleman on a left is me in 1999.
Getting my hands on a computer early on really lit the spark for my digital creativity. I remember diving into designing websites for any game I have been playing online.
That was the beginning of my love affair with web and interface design.
When I was fifteen, I started reaching out to companies to design their websites. I had this policy – they only had to pay if they loved what I created.
This approach really set the stage for my freelance career. I've done all sorts of projects, from designing a therapeutic app in Africa to uber-like app for strippers in Australia.
My policy paid of in testimonials from my Upwork's clients.
But it wasn't all about professional work.
I've been part of all kinds of projects – dabbling in stock photography and illustrations, marketing and production for online courses, writing articles and creating a videos.
I've always been up for new challenges and learning as I go.
Yes, I was hoping that this photo of eggs for Shutterstock will make me rich and famous.
I had a journey full of various experiences:
I helped a friend to start and grow an illustration YouTube channel from scratch to over 350K subscribers and 40 million views.
We launched few online courses that gains 3K+ students and made a sustainable source of passive income.
I even tried launching my own startup, rgb.academy – educational platform for artists.
It's dead now, like any first startups has to be.
While transitioning from freelancing to personal projects, I began documenting my journey on this blog – slobodskyi.com (formerly openeyesdesign.com).
